Hope those in Hong Kong and the PRC had a great CNY break.
Given the hype of A.I. over the past few weeks, I would like to take this opportunity to share with the members of my network about my quick and brief views on A.I. on top of my article back in January 2020.
(see link here :
The future of Artificial General Intelligence (“AGI”) in the next five years is an exciting prospect, but it is also filled with uncertainty. AGI is a subset of artificial intelligence ("A.I.") that focuses on creating machines capable of exhibiting human-like general intelligence, rather than performing specific tasks. It has the potential to revolutionize the way humans interact with technology, and the implications of this technology will be far-reaching.
The potential applications of AGI are immense. In the next five years, it will be used in a wide range of areas, such as medical research (which still has a long way to go because of various factors - can talk about it in subsequent articles), natural language processing (“NLP”), and robotics. Especially, in NLP (e.g. language models like the red-hot #ChatGPT and #LaMDA etc.), it could be used to understand complex conversations and generate meaningful responses. In robotics, AGI could be used to create models that could enable much higher usability, functionality, and self-diagnostics.
However, the ethical impact of AGI on humanity is also something that needs to be taken into consideration. There is a risk that AGI could be used for malicious purposes, such as spreading fake news, students relying on AGI to write essays for them, as well as other evil purposes that we creative human beings can think of. BUT, I am a strong believer in new technologies will create values and new jobs (think about how many jobs had been created since industrial revolution, invention of cars and steamboats etc.) and I don’t subscribe to the notion of overall job displacement because of technological advancement.
To conclude, AGI (especially NLP) has the potential to revolutionize the way we interact with various technologies in our daily lives, and the implications of AGI will be absolutely far-reaching. In the next five years, it is 100% certain that AGI will become even more advanced and capable of solving an even wider range of problems for us. But the most important thing for us to do will be using AGI to create overall positive value for humanity rather than just using AGI as another entertainment/gaming platform for people to kill time.
